I offer an initial coaching session as a way to help you see what coaching with me is like. I will share about how and why I coach, and coach you on meaningful areas of focus for a series of coaching conversations. If you decide you want to proceed with coaching, we will plan a coaching series together tailored to your needs. A coaching series typically looks something like this:
- goals chosen by you for the entire series
- hourly coaching sessions, once or twice a month, by video or audio, for 3-6 months
- actions designed by you during each session
- between sessions, communication with each other by e-mail or text
What is Coaching?
Coaching is a series of conversations between intentional partners
that brings holistic change through awareness and action.
- coaching is a partnership between individuals in conversation with each other.
- the intent of the coaching partnership is to bring change to the whole person; it is about transformation and growth.
- the steps toward holistic change are awareness and action: seeing with fresh perspective, and acting upon insight.

What coaching is . . . and isn’t:
Coaching means different things to different people, but here’s my take:
- Coaching is more than asking questions. Yes, coaches ask questions. The art of asking growth-provoking questions is an important coaching skill that comes about as a result of attentive listening and careful engagement with you.
→ An insightful coach knows how & when to speak with clarity and challenge. - Coaching is not just about planning and goal-setting. Yes, coaches help you plan, solve problems, and set meaningful goals. But coaching is more about your growth and development than about getting things done.
→ A coach partners with you to help you go below the surface where lasting, genuine transformation happens. - Coaching is not about my expertise. I have experience and expertise in church planting, disciple-making, leadership, and multicultural teaming. But coaching is not about me teaching you the things I know.
→ A coach helps you discover what you need to learn and how you need to grow in order to be who God is calling you to be.
